FANFOOD This Month in Sports – October ’12

October is a busy time in sports, The MLB Postseason gets underway, we start to see who the teams to beat are in the NFL, and College Football, and the NBA and NHL (hopefully) start their respective seasons.

In NASCAR the Race for the Cup continues, with races 4-7 of the 10 that make up the chase.

Below is information about the premier match-ups for each.

Major League Baseball

Premier match-ups

10/1 – 10/3

Orioles @ Rays

The Rays are on the outside looking in for a postseason spot. They can clinch a wild card spot with sweep of Baltimore and Texas sweep of Oakland, plus a win over the A’s in a tiebreaker on Thursday.

Game 1: Monday, October 1, 7:10 PM ET
Game 2: Tuesday, October 2, 7:10 PM ET
Game 3: Wednesday, October 3, 7:10 PM ET

10/1 – 10/3

Red Sox @ Yankees

The Yankees hope to win the division to keep from playing a one-game wild card match-up to see who will play in the AL division series. The Red Sox have been relegated to spoiler status due to their disappointing season. If the end of this season is anything like the last one, it will be fun to watch. As of October 1st, the Yanks are tied with the O’s with 3 to play.

Game 1: Monday, October 1, 7:05 PM ET
Game 2: Tuesday, October 2, 7:05 PM ET
Game 3: Wednesday, October 3, 7:05 PM ET

10/1 – 10/3

Rangers @ Athletics

The A’s are one in the driver’s seat for the AL wild card chase. The Yanks, O’s & Rangers have all clinched a wild card spot. It comes down to this series for the A’s. They can clinch a playoff berth with one win over Texas or a loss from both Tampa Bay and Los Angeles. They will clinch the AL West with a sweep. However, they will miss out on the playoffs if they get swept and the Rays, and Angels will out and they lose the tiebreaker game.

Game 1: Monday, October 1, 10:05 PM ET
Game 2: Tuesday, October 2, 10:05 PM ET
Game 3: Wednesday, October 3, 3:35 PM ET
