We got you covered with everything hoops, the Full NBA November Schedule,  NCAA College Basketball Season Previews by Conference and links, and the complete NCAA CB Schedule for November. And of course, we have the FANFOOD TOP 10 NBA teams and FANFOOD TOP 10 NCAA College Basketball squads.

But let’s not forget about Football. The NFL enters it’s second half and we are starting to think about playoffs, yes PLAYOFFS. Speaking of playoffs, this is the second year the NCAA has adopted a College Football Playoff (CFP) Systemin this article you will find links to the most current information from the College Football Selection Committee, the group that picks the 4 Schools that will compete for the Trophy. Click here for the FULL NFL Schedule in November and the remaining games in the NCAA.

Keeping with the Playoff Theme, NASCAR is in the midst of it’s own. 8 Drivers remain in the Eliminator Round, with the Top 4 Drivers competing for the Championship on November 22nd in Miami.

And in Professional Tennis, the ATP has a Tournament of it’s own to crown a Champion. The Barclays ATP World Tour FINALS are being held in London, November 15th – 22nd. Eight players are divided into two groups of four and play three round-robin matches each against the other players in their group. The two players with the best records in each group progress to the semifinals, with the winners meeting in the final to determine the champion.

Finally, later in the month the 103nd Grey Cup will be played to decide the champion for the 2015 CFL season. It will be played on November 29, 2015, at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg, Manitoba

Last year marked the first time since 1990 that the World Series opened on a Tuesday, and that pattern will continue this fall. After Games 1-2 in the AL park, the World Series will shift to the ballpark of the NL champions on Oct. 30. A Game 7, if necessary, would be scheduled in the AL city for Nov. 4. The scheduled off-days during the World Series are Oct. 29 and Nov. 2 (if necessary).

The only World Series to reach November were played in 2001, ’09 and ’10. The ’01 and ’09 Fall Classics each ended on Nov. 4, and the Giants clinched on Nov. 1, 2010.

NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The 6-0 Patriots have dropped back to pass on 70 percent of their snaps this season. The other two teams to drop back that often (Lions, Colts) are a combined 4-10, That isn’t the reason why they are the FANFOOD #1 NFL team heading into November, it’s the fact that no one can beat them right now. Aaron Rodgers makes the headlines, but the Packers‘ defense has allowed an NFL-best 16.8 points per game this season and has forced a turnover in every game. Jordy Who? the pack is #2. Will the perfect season come to an end soon for Cincinnati? Let’s hope so. Andy Dalton is 7-9 with a 32.9 Total QBR against the Bengals’ next two opponents, the Steelers and Browns. They are playing solid football and the fact that they are healthy is why they are #3 on our list.

NCAA COLLEGE FOOTBALL

After a weekend that saw a few shake-ups at the top of the rankings, the College Football Playoff picture is becoming clearer. There are plenty of candidates for the CFP, but the Utah Utes and Florida State Seminoles played themselves out of the picture with their first losses of the season Saturday.

Other teams, such as the Clemson Tigers, made their cases stronger than ever.

The College Football Playoff (CFP) is a big success. Fans, including many who are new to the sport, enjoy it. The first College Football Playoff semifinals and national championship were the three most-viewed programs in cable television history.

Every Game Counts
The playoff preserves the excitement and significance of college football’s unique regular season where every game counts.

Four Teams
The selection committee ranks the teams based on conference championships won, strength of schedule, head-to-head results, comparison of results against common opponents and other factors.

Two Days
New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day belong to college football, with two semifinal games and four other top bowl games continuing a wonderful tradition.

One Goal
The two teams winning the playoff semifinals compete for the College Football Playoff National Championship. That game is in a different city each year, always on a Monday night.

Universal Access
Every FBS team has equal access to the College Football Playoff based on its performance. No team automatically qualifies.

More Revenue
The format increases revenue for all conferences and independent institutions.

Governance
University presidents and chancellors from all 10 FBS conferences and Notre Dame serve on the College Football Playoff Board of Managers and govern the administrative operations, with commissioners (the management committee) managing the event. A small staff in the playoff office in Irving, Texas, carries out the day-to-day responsibilities.

Selection Committee
A talented group of high-integrity individuals with experience as coaches, student-athletes, college administrators and journalists, along with sitting athletics directors, comprise the selection committee. Members of the committee are: Jeff Long (chair), Barry Alvarez, Mike Gould, Pat Haden, Kirby Hocutt, Tom Jernstedt, Bobby Johnson, Tom Osborne, Dan Radakovich, Condoleezza Rice, Mike Tranghese, Steve Wieberg and Tyrone Willingham.

Selection Committee Responsibilities
Rank the top 25 teams and assign the top four to semifinal sites.
Assign teams to New Year’s bowls.
Create competitive matchups.
Attempt to avoid rematches of regular-season games and repeat appearances in specific bowls.
Consider geography.

Participants in the New Year’s Bowls
Both participants in the Orange, Rose and Sugar Bowls are contracted outside the playoff arrangement (Big Ten and Pac-12 to Rose Bowl; SEC and Big 12 to Sugar Bowl; ACC to Orange Bowl against the highest ranked available team from the SEC, Big Ten and Notre Dame). If a conference champion qualifies for the playoff, then the bowl will choose a replacement from that conference. When those bowls host the semifinals and their contracted conference champions do not qualify, then the displaced champion(s) will play in one of the other New Year’s bowls.

When not hosting semifinals, the Cotton, Fiesta and Peach Bowls will welcome displaced conference champions and the top-ranked champion from a non-contract conference. The highest-ranked available teams will fill any other berths. The selection committee will make the pairings.

Rankings

The selection committee members will meet weekly, in person, on Mondays and Tuesdays to produce rankings.

NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE

The Habs started the season with an NHL-record nine straight regulation victories. Carey Price was busy in Saturday’s demolition of Toronto but didn’t seem to mind. When will Michel Therrien get appropriate credit for his work behind the Montreal bench? They are the FANFOOD Top NHL team heading into November. The Caps started the season well also going 6-1 in their frist 7 sevens with an impressive five-game win streak with a nice plus-11 goal differential. Evgeny Kuznetsov picking up where he left off in the playoffs. The Preds are proving they can win pretty much any way you like: close-checking and wide open, shootout, regulation, and the round out the TOP 3.

  1. Montreal
  2. Washington
  3. Nashville
  4. Dallas
  5. Chicago
  6. NY Islanders
  7. St. Louis

NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION

The NBA’s 70th season started Tuesday night, and the Golden State Warriors remain in their rightful place as the top team in the FANFOOD 10, as defending champs should do. The Cleveland Cavaliers are still ahead of the West’s very deep chasing pack at No. 2 despite their painful preseason, which only feels right given the sort of lock LeBron’s Cavs are to win the East. Fears that blending LaMarcus Aldridge in won’t be seamless have been quickly supplanted by fresh fears that Gregg Popovich took on too much work by accepting his new Team USA gig. But let’s not get carried away, though. In San Antonio this team is stacked. Don’t worry about the Spurs as they round out the FF Top 3.

  3. San Antonio
  4. Oklahoma City

NCAA College Basketball

With college basketball games beginning on Nov. 13, here are some links to conference previews, followed by links to the early season tournaments.

Conference Previews

  • Will SMU be able to remain motivated despite its postseason ban? Can a team like UConn, which missed the NCAA tournament last year, take the title away from the favorites?
  • Much of the preseason coverage is focused on the renewal of the Tobacco Road Rivalry between Duke and North Carolina, but don’t count out Virginia, the defending regular season champ.
  • Dan Hurley’s Rhode Island Rams have been headed in the right direction for three seasons and now seem poised to capture the conference crown. Having ultra-talented guard E.C. Matthews doesn’t hurt either.
  • Georgetown (D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera) and Providence (Kris Dunn) may have player of the year candidates, but this conference still looks like it belongs to Villanova.
  • Now in its second season in the Big Ten, Maryland is the conference favorite and could compete for a national title as well. Wisconsin, last year’s national runner-up, could be in a rebuilding year.
  • Oklahoma and Iowa State are the main roadblocks in Kansas’s path for 12 straight Big 12 championships.
  • UNLV seems like the most talented team in the conference again, but can it compete with San Diego State and Boise State to win the league?
  • Cal brought in the best freshman class in the conference, but it’ll have to coalesce quickly to take down conference giant Arizona.

NASCAR

Eliminator Round: The eight drivers will battle at Martinsville Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway and Phoenix International Raceway for the four spots available in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship. A win at any of the three races equals advancement into the next round. The rest of the field of four will be determined by order of points scored in the three races. After this round, each advancing driver will be reset to 5,000 points

.

Tiebreaker: If any position comes down to a tiebreaker, only the three races in the Eliminator Round matter. Wins and finishes in the regular season won’t, so the drivers will need to run up front to challenge for the win. If they can’t win, they’ll need to have more second-place finishes, third-place finishes, etc. than their competitors in order to break the tie and advance. If two drivers have the exact same finishes, the tiebreaker then goes to the driver who scored the best finish first.

THE NASCAR SPRINT CUP CHAMPIONSHIP

The final race is all about order of finish. No bonus points for laps led, etc. The four finalists will start the race tied, and the highest finisher among them at Homestead-Miami Speedway will win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship.

 ATP WORLD TOUR FINALS

BARCLAYS ATP WORLD TOUR FINALS
THE O2, LONDON | NOV 15-22

The ATP World Tour Finals is the last professional men’s tennis tournament played. It will be on indoor hard courts and is held annually in November at the O2 Arena in London, United Kingdom. The ATP World Tour Finals are the season-ending championships of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour, featuring the top eight singles players and doubles teams of the ATP Rankings. The tournament was first held in 1970.

Unlike all other singles events on the men’s tour, the ATP World Tour Finals is not a straightforward knock-out tournament. Eight players are divided into two groups of four and play three round-robin matches each against the other players in their group. The two players with the best records in each group progress to the semifinals, with the winners meeting in the final to determine the champion. Though it is theoretically possible to advance to the semi-finals of the tournament with two round-robin losses, no player in the history of the singles tournament has won the title after losing more than one round-robin match.

The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is the year-end climax to the men’s professional tennis season, featuring only the world’s best eight qualified singles players and doubles teams as they battle it out for the last title of the season. Players compete for Emirates ATP Rankings points throughout the season in a bid to earn one of the eight coveted berths and a chance to win the $1.92m prize money on offer for the winner. Played using a round-robin format at The O2 in London, each participant plays three matches as they compete for a berth in the knockout semi-finals and beyond. An undefeated champion earns 1,500 Emirates ATP Rankings points. Total prize money offered is US$6 million.

FANFOOD GUIDE TO EVERYTHINGTHANKSGIVING

The very first Thanksgiving was observed in Plymouth, MA in 1621, when weary settlers were joined by Wampanoag Indians in celebration of a traditional Old World English harvest festival. The Thanksgiving tradition continues today with turkey, savory stuffing and cranberry sauce, plus generous helpings of pumpkin pie and other desserts traditionally prepared from family recipes handed down through the years.

We all know Thanksgiving is a time for family togetherness, but it’s also the perfect time to discover or embrace your culinary passions. The celebration, after all, is really around the dinner table. Make this year’s meal something to remember. Whether you cook a classic menu or create new traditions entirely.

Whether you are are a Seasoned Veteran or this is your first time hosting the Festivities, we got you covered with everything you need to know to make it the best Thanksgiving Ever!

Here are our Favorite Go-To Recipes for Sides and Stuff:

Easy Turkey Gravy

Making gravy from your pan drippings is easy. You can make it with the drippings or use low sodium chicken broth while your turkey is resting. Don’t even think about using gravy from a jar.

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
4 cups pan drippings

PREPARATION:

Drain the pan drippings for the roasted turkey through a fine strainer.
Let sit and then remove any fat from the top of the drippings.
Add in chicken broth or water to make 4 cups if necessary.
In a medium saucepan, melt margarine or butter.
Add in lots of black pepper.
Add in 1/2 cup flour plus 3 tablespoons; constantly whisk for about 3 minutes over low heat. Slowly add in the 4 cups turkey broth/drippings; whisk constantly over medium-low heat until bubbly and thickened (about 3 minutes).
Use right away or keep warm over lowest heat setting, whisk again before serving.

Mashed Potatoes

The greatest thing about this recipe for mashed potatoes is that you can make them ahead of time and cook them while the turkey is resting.

INGREDIENTS:

3 lbs potatoes (about 4 large)
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine
2 (3 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
2/3 cup sour cream
1/4 cup milk
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon butter or 1 tablespoon margarine, melted
1/2 teaspoon paprika

PREPARATION:

Place potatoes in a saucepan; add water to cover and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Bring to a boil; cover, reduce heat to medium and simmer for 25 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Drain.
Peel potatoes; place in a large mixing bowl, and mash with a potato masher.
Add 2 tablespoons butter, cream cheese, sour cream, milk and 3/4 teaspoon salt.
Mix until all ingredients are blended.
Spoon mixture into a lightly greased 12x8x2-inch baking dish. Brush top of mixture with melted butter; sprinkle with paprika. Bake immediately, or cover and refrigerate*.
Bake at 350F, uncovered for 30 minutes or until hot.
*= If refrigerated, let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes before baking.

Sweet Potato Casserole

This is my take on a classic sweet potato casserole. To me, you must top them with marshmallows, but they are optional.

INGREDIENTS:

Casserole
3 cups mashed sweet potatoes
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup melted butter
1/4 cup cream
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Topping
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup flour
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup chopped pecans
3 tablespoons melted butter
1 cup mini marshmallows

PREPARATION:

Mix all of the casserole ingredients together until well blended.
Spread into a buttered casserole dish. Mix topping ingredients (except marshmallows) together and sprinkle over the casserole. Bake uncovered in a 350 degree oven for 35 minutes. Remove from oven. To top with marshmallows, place them on the casserole and bake for an addition 5-7 minutes or until marshmallows have melted.

Cranberry-Pineapple Sauce

This recipe makes close to 6 cups, plan ahead the sauce needs to chill for 24 hours before using.

INGREDIENTS:

1 (20 ounce) cans crushed pineapple in juice
2 (12 ounce) packages cranberries (fresh or frozen, preferably fresh)
1 1/4 cups sugar (can use more)
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon cloves

PREPARATION:

Drain the pineapple thoroughly in a fine sieve set over a large measuring cup (push the pineapple against the sieve to drain out any extra juice).
Add enough water to the measuring cup (with the juice in it) to make 2 cups liquid.
Place the liquid in a saucepan. Add in cranberries and sugar.
Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a boil. Continue to boil until most of the berries pop and the mixture is thick, stirring occasionally (about 10 minutes) remove from heat. Add in drained pineapple, walnuts, lemon juice and cloves; mix until well combined. Transfer to a bowl and cool to room temperature.
Cover and refrigerate for 24 hours.

Green Bean Casserole

This is the classic green bean casserole you have had at many thanksgiving dinners throughout the years. The recipe has not changed and can’t be easier.

INGREDIENTS:

1 (10 3/4 ounce) cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/4 cup milk
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans cut green beans, drained
1 1/3 cups French-fried onions (French’s)

PREPARATION:

Combine soup, milk and pepper in a 1 1/2 qt baking dish; stir until blended.
Stir in beans and 2/3 cup fried onions.Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes or until hot. Stir.
Sprinkle with remaining 2/3 cup fried onions.Bake 5 more minutes or until onions are golden.

Smoking the Bird

For generations people have been dropping turkeys into the oven and roasting for hours. They use stuffings and little pop up timers. Guess what? You can make a great turkey this way, but wouldn’t it be great to go one step further? Smoked turkey is more flavorful and tender than one roasted in the oven. Breaking away from tradition can be hard, but let the people over all About.com walk you through the process.

The Basics:

Here’s what you are going to do. You are going to smoke your turkey to an internal temperature of 165 degrees F. This means that the coldest part of the turkey is 165 degrees F. This isn’t a suggestion. Test in at least two places (or more) and remember that turkey bones heat faster so keep the thermometer away from bone. Also, dark meat should be cooked to a higher temperature so worry about the breast, but make sure to check the thighs as well.

Deep Fried Turkey

How To Deep Fry a Turkey

As the popularity of Cajun Deep Fried Turkey has continued to grow, a whole industry has sprung up to support it. The problem is that most people face a big problem trying to do this on their stove. Namely, it makes a terrible mess and it’s dangerous to do in an enclosed space. The answer is to take it outdoors. But be warned, this can be a expensive operation, but well worth it. For those of you who don’t know what a deep fried turkey is like, let me give you the basics of the process.

How to Deep Fry a Turkey:

Step One: Get a turkey, a very large cooking pot, and some cooking oil. vegetable oil can be used, but it’s better to use peanut oil. Peanut oil is very expensive and several gallons are going to be needed.

Step Two: Prepare the turkey. It needs to be defrosted and washed. Make sure there are no pop up tender timer devices or anything left inside. And, most importantly it must be completely dry. I mean really, really dry. You know what happens when you put water in boiling oil, don’t you. You will also need to truss the turkey, meaning you need to secure the legs, neck flap, wings and tail to the body of the turkey.

Step Three: To determine the perfect amount of oil you are going to be using, place the turkey in the pot and add water until the turkey is completely covered plus two inches. With the turkey and the water there should still be several inches of room between the oil and the top of the pot. If it’s a close call, then you need either a bigger pot or a smaller turkey. Remove the turkey and measure the water. This is the amount of oil that will be needed.

Step Four: Dry and season the turkey. Various recipes will call for seasoning rubs or injection mixtures. You’ll find out more on this in the coming posts.

Step Five: Make sure that your frying pot is completely dry. Water left behind can cause some serious problems once the oil is added and starts heating up.

Step Six: Add the oil to the pot and bring it to a temperature of about 375 degrees. You should really get a good thermometer so you can get the temperatures right.

Step Seven: This is where it gets tricky. The turkey needs to be room temperature and dry. Turn off the burner when you put the turkey in. You are going to lower the turkey into the pot of very hot oil. The oil is going to splatter. You need some very good cooking gloves and a way to put the turkey in the oil while you are a safe distance. This is the reason why it’s really not that good of an idea to do it on your stove top. There are now devices to help you like Deep Fried Turkey Lifter for $39.95 that give you a good hold on the turkey. Now I have heard of people using a wire basket on the turkey and a wooden board to do this. A bit of inventing and I’m sure you’ll find a way. Anyway, slowly lower the turkey into the oil.

A good method here is dunking. When you lower the turkey into the oil it will boil up. This is why you want the burner off when you do it. People have been burned by hot oil hitting the burner. You might not need to do more than a single dunk but you should be prepared to raise the bird out of the oil it it starts boiling up. You can greatly reduce the mess and risk of personal injury by lifting the bird up as the oil boils around it. A couple of dunks and the turkey should be nicely settled in.

Step Eight: Once the bird is safely resting in the oil, turn the burner back on to get to a temperature of 350 degrees F. At this point you can go take a breather. But don’t wander too far because that turkey will be done soon. A deep fried turkey cooks at a rate of about 3 to 3 1/2 minutes per pound. A ten pound turkey should take 30-35 minutes. An instant read thermometer can help you test for doneness, but of course you will need to lift the turkey out to test it.

Step Nine: Remove the turkey from the oil when it’s done. Do this slowly and after you have turned off the burner. Let the turkey drain a little bit and you’re set to go.

Step Ten: Carve and enjoy. If you have never had a turkey cooked this way then you have not finished your life requirements. Do this and you may never put a turkey in the oven again. Despite what you might think this turkey is not oily or greasy. It’s crisp, juicy and delicious.

Of course I know that if you put your mind to it you can come up with a good cooker arrangement. But there are a couple of things this cooker needs: a good stock pot, a controllable heat source and a way to safely get the turkey in the oil and out again.

DEEP-FRIED TURKEY

INGREDIENTS

whole turkey, completely thawed
seasoned rub
peanut oil

PREPARATION
1. Get a huge pot, like a stock pot. Put the turkey (completely thawed) in the pot, add water to completely surround the turkey. Look at how much water you added; that’s how much oil you will need. Pour out the water and dry off the turkey.
2. Put a seasoned rub on the turkey. You don’t have to, but it makes the skin delicious.
3. Fill the pot with as much oil as you need..The more the better. This is where it gets expensive, because you need at least a couple gallons of oil. The better quality oils (like peanut oil) will get hotter, and work better, but you can use a cheaper oil. Now, get the oil as hot as possible, and as close to 400 as possible without excessive smoking.
4. Turn off the burner (this is a precaution to prevent spatters from hitting an open flame). Add the turkey. You can use a 2 by 4 piece of wood (thru the wrapped legs) to lower the turkey into the oil. WARNING: the oil really splatters out at this point, so STAY back. This is MESSY! Once the spattering has stopped, turn the burner back on.
5. After you add the turkey, the oil temp. will drop rapidly. That’s why you want it as hot as possible to begin with. Hopefully, it will remain around 350 degrees, so it sears the skin, and the meat does NOT get greasy.
6. Cook for about 3 min per pound, + 5 minutes. It the turkey is over 18 lbs, you might want to go 3 min per pound +10 or 15 minutes.
Turkey done this way is very tender and moist, and amazingly not greasy…

Six Steps to Carving the Perfect Turkey

Thanksgiving Info

How to Pick a Turkey

The rule of thumb when buying a Thanksgiving turkey is to estimate one pound of meat per person. If you have a little extra time and money to spend, consider getting your turkey from a nearby farm. In addition to supporting the local economy, you get the freshest meat possible and won’t have to worry about defrosting. Fresh turkeys should remain refrigerated until cooked. If you buy a frozen bird, follow the tips in step two.

How to Defrost Your Turkey

You can defrost a turkey in the refrigerator or in cold water. In the fridge, you need approximately 24 hours for every 4-5 pounds of turkey. Cold water thawing takes only 30 minutes per pound of meat. You must change the water every 30 minutes, however, and refrigerate or cook your bird immediately after thawing.

Prepping Your Bird

To add extra flavor and tenderize your turkey, consider taking the time to marinate or brine it before roasting. The jury’s still out on which method creates a tastier bird, so try one this year and the other next November and let your family decide!

To Marinate: Use a fork to make holes over the whole turkey. Put the bird in a large, sturdy plastic bag, add the marinade (homemade or purchased), close the bag, and let your bird marinate overnight in the refrigerator. Be sure to discard leftover marinade before cooking the turkey.

To Brine: Prepare the brining solution, mixing 2 cups of table salt with 2 gallons of cold water in a large, clean container. You can add dried herbs to the brine, and some chefs also use brown sugar, a few cloves of garlic, or even dried red chili peppers. Submerge the turkey in the brining solution and refrigerate for 6-8 hours. Before cooking, thoroughly wash the turkey, removing all remnants of the brine.

Stuffing – Let Your Creativity Reign

While you can buy stuffing mixes, the homemade alternative is much tastier, and not as hard to prepare as you might think. There are a myriad of stuffing combinations, including a few creative twists. Here are a few:

Apples & Cranberries
Dried Fruit and Nuts Marinated in Orange Juice
Wild Rice & Cornbread
Sausage & Chestnuts
Oyster Stuffing

Many pros recommend always cooking stuffing outside the bird to prevent salmonella poisoning. In this case, you can still put an aromatic inside the bird to enhance the flavor, such as a satchel of herbs, a combination of fruit, or a Mirepoix. If you cook the stuffing in the bird, make absolute certain that you check the internal temperature to ensure it has cooked completely.

Whatever method you choose, preparing stuffing the day before Thanksgiving is a great way to save time on the big day. Just remember to keep the wet (vegetables, fruit, broth, etc) and dry ingredients separate until it’s time to cook them.

Roast a Moist Turkey

Sure you can deep fry or grill, but for most Americans, roasting is the way to enjoy this Thanksgiving staple. Use a roasting pan with low sides and add a cup of water to the bottom to help with clean-up after the meal. Roast at a minimum of 325° F until the internal temperature registers 165° F on a food thermometer. Be sure to check the meat’s temperature both at the thickest part of the breast and on the inner thigh and wing to ensure that the whole bird is thoroughly cooked. If you’ve stuffed the turkey, make sure that the center of the stuffing has also reached 165°F.

Carving Your Bird

Letting the turkey sit for 20 minutes after removing it from the oven allows the juices to set and makes the carver’s job much easier. While it’s intimidating to slice into such a masterpiece, the best way to learn to carve a turkey is to practice! Using a sharp, straight knife helps you with this delicate task.

Experts also recommend removing the drumstick and wing before cutting into the highly coveted breast meat. Once you do, cut a vertical line along the center of the breast–there should be a cartilage ridge down the center. Next, cut a horizontal line along the breast bone, starting from the outside and moving toward your vertical cut. Do this for both sides. Then, slice the breast meat at a slight slant from the outside of the breast to the center. Layer meat on a slightly warm platter, and serve soon to prevent the meat from drying out

The Most Important Thanksgiving Lesson

Whether you opt for an elaborate feast or a casual dinner, your Thanksgiving meal will be special because you share it with loved ones. Give yourself time, relax, and enjoy your time in the kitchen. Whether you’re a pro trying new things or a first-time cook planning your first feast, savor the process and take pride in your hard work.

NYC Marathon

this year’s big run in the Big Apple to kick off on Sunday morning, November 1, 2015 beginning at 9AM with the starting line at the city’s famous Verrazono-Narrows Bridge in Staten Island.

For complete TV coverage tune in to local ABC television on Channel 7 in New York City. and nationwide on ESPN and ESPN2.
All about the New York City Marathon

What began in Central Park with a 127 runners in 1970, has today grown to an international event which includes almost 50,000 runners from around the world participating in one of the world’s largest and most famous running competitions.

Where else? In NYC, where an estimated 2 million spectators pack the streets each year to cheer on a friend or relative on the traditional first Sunday in November — when the marathon runs for the a bit more than 26 miles from Staten Island to Manhattan in a carnival party atmosphere!

As usual, star gazing will also part of the fun — last year celebrity runners at the 2014 NYC Marathon included “Desperate Housewives” actress Teri Hatcher, football great Tiki Barber, and pro tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.

New York Marathon official route

The New York City Marathon starts on the Staten Island side of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, then proceeds through Brooklyn and Queens

Crossing into Manhattan, via the Queensborough Bridge, the race next makes its way up to the Bronx and then south again to Manhattan … where the finish line awaits in Central Park.
Best New York Marathon viewing

In Manhattan, First Avenue and 59th Street traditionally provides the most dramatic views as runners spill down the ramp of the Queensborough Bridge (at the 16-mile mark) for a sharp turn on First Avenue to speed their way uptown. Otherwise, the best spectator viewing – and most elbow room – can be found on First Avenue between 65th and 96th Streets.

In Brooklyn, any spot along Fourth Avenue, the longest NYC Marathon stretch, comes highly recommended. In Queens the best spots lie along 51st Street and 44th Drive from Vernon to Crescent Street. Meanwhile, up north in the Bronx, try 138th Street from Alexander Avenue to Third Avenue.
