The Washington Redskins’ 28-18 victory over the Dallas Cowboys determined the NFC East champion and finalized the playoff seeding and the wild card schedule. In a rematch of last season’s AFC Wild-Card Game, NBC will broadcast the Cincinnati Bengals heading to Houston to face the Texans on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET. This time around, the Texans are limping into the playoffs.

Another rematch will air in prime time Saturday night. Adrian Peterson’s Vikings will head to Lambeau Field for a rubber match against the Green Bay Packers at 8 p.m. ET. If it’s anything like Sunday’s instant classic, we are in for a treat.

Sunday’s schedule will start in Baltimore. Chuck Pagano will bring his Indianapolis Colts in to face his former employers, the Ravens, at 1 p.m. ET on CBS. It has been a ridiculous ride for Pagano and rookie quarterback Andrew Luck. The Colts showed Sunday against Houston that they’re ready to beat playoff competition.

The final game of the weekend will feature the NFC East champ Redskins hosting the Seattle Seahawks at 4:30 p.m. ET on FOX.

Here are the times of the divisional-round games. On Saturday, Jan. 12, the Denver Broncos will host the lowest remaining AFC seed at 4:30 p.m. ET, and the San Francisco 49ers will start their playoff adventure at 8 p.m. ET on the same day. The Atlanta Falcons will try to avoid going one-and-done again at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 13. The AFC’s No. 2 seed, the New England Patriots, will finish the weekend at 4:30 p.m. on the same day.

 NCAA College Football

The new year kicks off with 4 games January 1st. In the Gator Bowl, Mississipps State takes on Northwestern at 1pm EST. This will be the first matchup between Mississippi State and Northwestern, but the coaches certainly know each other, having struck up a friendship after meeting in the early 2000s while both were assistant coaches.

At the same time Georgia plays Nebraska in the Capital One bowl.  Both coming off painful – albeit entirely different – losses in huge games, the No. 6 Bulldogs and 23rd-ranked Cornhuskers will try to focus on the task at hand in Orlando, Fla.

The Outback Bowl will also be played at 1:00pm and features South Carolina (10-2) and Michigan. This is Spurrier’s second trip to the Outback Bowl and fourth overall for South Carolina. The Gamecocks beat Ohio State in both 2001 and 2002, but lost to Iowa in their most recent appearance in 2009. Michigan (8-4) finished second to Nebraska in the Legends Division of the Big Ten, and three of its losses came to the top three teams in the country – No. 1 Notre Dame, No. 2 Alabama and No. 3 Ohio State – as well as the Cornhuskers. The teams have split two all-time meetings, with Michigan winning the most recent one in 1985.

Then there is the Heart of Dallas bowl at noon EST.

Later in the week there is a great matchup in the at&t Cotton bowl between Texas A&M and Oklahoma in primetime at 8:00 on Friday, January 4th.

Ohh and there is also the BBVA Compass Bowl and the GoDaddy.com bowl for those interested.

NBA returning to London for regular season matchup

via Official release

The National Basketball Association (NBA) will return to London with its third regular-season game in Europe featuring the three-time NBA champion Detroit Pistons and the two-time champion New York Knicks, the league announced today.

NBA London Live 2013 will take place on Jan. 17, 2013 at The O2 which will host its seventh NBA game, including four preseason games, since 2007. The game follows the league’s first-ever regular-season games in Europe held in March 2011, which included a pair of sold-out contests between the Toronto Raptors and New Jersey Nets also played at The O2. Following NBA London Live 2013, the NBA will have played a total of 115 games internationally since 1988, including 16 regular-season games in Japan, Mexico, and the United Kingdom.

Here is the full NBA schedule for January 2013:

NCAA Men’s Basketball

 NCAA men's Basketball logo

Here comes conference play. The Big Ten is loaded and there are some good teams in the Big East. In the Big East the favorite is the Louisville Cardinals. The Cardinals were picked to win the league with good reason — a roster filled with terrific returning players, plus the addition of some talented freshmen. Peyton Siva and Russ Smith are as dynamic a backcourt force as you’ll find anywhere, while Chane Behanan, Gorgui Dieng, Wayne Blackshear and Montrezl Harrell are a formidable frontcourt.

But what separates Louisville from everyone else in the league, and maybe in the country, is the team’s dedication to defense. The Cards are as relentless — if not more — than they were a year ago en route to the Final Four. Only three teams have scored more than 70 points against Louisville this season and as the Cards showed against Kentucky, when they turn on that defensive high-octane pressure, the game changes in a heartbeat.

Other contenders are Syracuse and Cincinnati. Somehow the Orange have managed to restock and reload despite losing most of their starting roster. The team’s biggest weakness right now is defense — the zone is good, but not quite yet good enough.

Cincinnati’s three-guard lineup has been equally terrific offensively but as the New Mexico game showed, the Bearcats struggle in a tighter defensive battle. They need to win when the points don’t come so easily. The other outlier to add to this category: Georgetown, though I still think the Hoyas are a longshot to win the league.

In the Big Ten, Indiana is the clear favorite, but you can make the argument for Michigan. The Wolverines are undefeated, Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. might be the the country’s most dynamic backcourt, and the freshmen (Nik Stauskas, Glenn Robinson III and Mitch McGary) are playing like anything but.

The Hoosiers will take their lumps in this loaded Big Ten this season, but they are still the odds-on favorite to win the league, and one of three or four clear national title favorites. Tom Crean boasts the nation’s best and most balanced offense — Jordan Hulls, Yogi Ferrell, Christian Watford, Victor Oladipo, Will Sheehey, Remy Abell and, oh yeah, Cody Zeller all move the ball, fly down the court and score efficiently — and last season’s issues on the defensive end have been considerably improved.

Other contenders: This league isn’t the nation’s best this season because Indiana is some unchecked power, or because the Wolverines and Hoosiers will wage some two-team clash atop the league. Quite the contrary. The Big Ten has four other teams you would consider legitimate contenders to win the regular season title: Minnesota, Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan State.
