Week 17 was a mixed bag for the FANFOOD 2 for 2.  Out of 4 starts, just half of them were quality, and only 1 win to show for it.

1. Marcus Stroman

 

Marcus Stroman took a loss Sunday, giving up five earned runs on seven hits and one walk in three-plus innings and striking out one in his team’s 6-1 defeat against the Astros. Stroman (7-3) gave up a two-run single with the bases loaded in the third inning before giving up four straight hits to open the fourth and getting pulled from the game. He had allowed just one earned run on 11 hits and four walks in 21 innings over his three previous starts. Stroman owns a 3.49 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 68:18 K:BB ratio in 77 1/3 innings. It was a tale of two starts in week 17 for Blue Jays pitcher Marcus Stroman, as he delivered a win Tuesday, giving up just one earned run on six hits and two walks in seven innings and striking out eight in his team’s 4-2 victory over the Red Sox.

2. Kyle Lohse

 

Brewers starting pitcher Kyle Lohse was shelled for nine runs — seven earned — on nine hits and three walks while striking out two over four innings of a 9-7 defeat. In his other start of week 17 Lohse tossed a quality start in a losing effort Monday night against the Rays at Tropicana Field. The right-hander permitted two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six over six innings of a 2-1 defeat.

Alive and Kicking

Orangerie is a Scotch whisky that’s been infused with orange peel, clove, and cassia; it can be sourced online.

 

INGREDIENTS

DEMERARA SIMPLE SYRUP
1 tablespoon demerara sugar

COCKTAIL
4 oz. strong cold-brew coffee
4 oz. fernet (preferably Contratto)
3 oz. amaro (preferably Barolo Chinato)
3 oz. Compass Box Whisky Co. Orangerie or Grand Marnier
4 orange twists (for serving)

 

PREPARATION

to make the simple syrup:

Combine sugar and 1 Tbsp. hot water in a jar, cover, and shake until sugar is dissolved. Chill until cold.

to make the drink:

For each cocktail, combine 1 oz. coffee, 1 oz. fernet, ¾ oz. amaro, ¾ oz. Scotch, and ¼ oz. demerara simple syrup in a cocktail shaker.
Fill shaker with ice and shake vigorously until outside of shaker is frosty, about 30 seconds.
Strain; Garnish with an orange twist.
