Daily Fantasy Baseball Games

Fantasy baseball fans are always looking to find more games to play. Multiple fantasy websites have started to offer short-term duration games. A 162-game baseball season even tires out some fantasy players who play in traditional draft leagues. Injuries and underperforming lineups might have decimated your draft. Short-term duration games are a great alternative to your traditional leagues.

Daily games give fantasy players more opportunities to play fantasy baseball and to win prizes. For example, Fantazzle offers entry fee and free money games to its players and even reward free entries a cash prize. This article is all about these, fast (and potentially lucrative) games that let you scratch your competitive itch at any time during the MLB Season, followed by a recipe for the best “Kansas City” Style BBQ sauce you can make at home.

The advantages of Daily Games:

  • No season long commitment. MLB contests last only one day.
  • No need to set up or manage a league, and there’s always a game going.
  • Luck is less of a factor. The one-day format minimizes the impact of injuries.
  • Legal cash prizes.

In most daily games, like the Daily Fantasy Baseball Challenge that Fantazzle Fantasy Sports offers, you select a basic 9-person lineup (C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 3 OFs), some games will also let you choose a utility player. The team at the end of the day who has accumulated the best stats and most points will win the prize.

The big name fantasy game companies have also started to develop daily games. Major League Baseball offers a non-traditional fantasy baseball game with Beat the Streak which has a 5.6 million dollar prize attached to it if a player can successfully choose 57 batters in a row that will get a hit. ESPN has a monthly game called Streak for the Cash where you’re challenged to select the outcome of a listed matchup between teams, individual competitors or a combination of both.

Here are some great options if you are interested in playing a daily fantasy baseball game.

Overview

Your goal is to break baseball’s toughest record — the legendary 56-game hitting streak
Pick one player every day who you think will get a hit. Get a hit, your streak continues; get no hits, start a new streak. Be the first to reach 57 games and win $5.6 Million.

Selecting Your Players

Each day on which a regular season MLB game is played during the Contest Period a.k.a gameday, you must select one (1) player from a list displayed by MLB.com of MLB players who are on each MLB Club’s active roster on that gameday (the “Active Players List”). You may select any MLB player from the Active Players List, including any player you have previously chosen, until five (5) minutes prior to the scheduled start of the MLB game (the “Lock Time”) in which such MLB player is on an active roster for that Game Day. You can make your daily player selection up to ten (10) calendar days prior to any Game Day and may change your selection at any time prior to the Lock Time for any applicable MLB player on that Game Day. The Active Players List may change as a result of injury or other roster changes, so be alert!

Establishing and Maintaining a Streak

Your streak is measured by the number of consecutive MLB game(s) the player(s) you select are credited with a hit during the Contest Period.

Your streak will automatically end and you must start to build your streak again from zero under any of the following scenarios:

  • If you select a player for any MLB game who does not get a hit and has at least one official at bat, or one sacrifice fly during the MLB game for which you selected him; or
  • If you fail to select a player for any Game Day.

Your streak will NOT end under any of the following scenarios (each such scenario, a “Pass”):

  • If a player you select does not play during the MLB game for which you selected him for any reason other than his MLB Club not being scheduled to play;
  • If each of your selected players’ plate appearances (one or more) result in a base on balls, hit batsman, defensive interference or obstruction or a sacrifice bunt; or
  • In the event any MLB game for which you select a player is cancelled, postponed or suspended.

Overview

With the “Mothership’s” Streak for the Cash, you’re challenged to select the outcome of a listed matchup between teams, individual competitors or a combination of both. You select one matchup at a time and your goal is to put together the longest streak of correct choices.

Here are examples of matchups between two teams:

  • NCAA BASKETBALL – Kentucky Wildcats at Duke Blue Devils
  • NBA BASKETBALL – Los Angeles Lakers at Brooklyn Nets
  • EUROPEAN SOCCER – Manchester United at FC Barcelona
  • WORLD RUGBY – New Zealand at Australia

Here are examples of “prop” matchups between teams, players or a combination of both:

  • NFL – Tom Brady Pass Completions vs. New York Jets 1st Downs
  • NBA – Kevin Durant Points vs. Rajon Rondo Points + Assists
  • GOLF – Tiger Woods Lower 1st Round vs. Rory McIlroy Lower 1st Round
  • NBA/MLB – Philadelphia 76ers points scored vs. Cliff Lee pitch count

For most prop matchups the side with the HIGHER score, time or total will be declared the winner, but in some, the side that is LOWER will win.

Monthly Challenges

On the first day of each Monthly Challenge all participants start with of a streak of zero, and at the conclusion of each Monthly Challenge all streaks are reset at zero. If you win a matchup your streak continues; if you lose a matchup or elect to forfeit, your streak ends and you’re back to 0. Your streak is measured by the number of consecutive matchups you correctly select. For clarity matchups will count toward the Monthly Challenge in which they are posted for selection, even if the matchup concludes or is scored FINAL during the next Monthly Challenge (i.e., after midnight). You are not required to play every day. Matchups that end as a tie will be scored as a “PUSH” and your streak will remain intact. Matchups may also be cancelled by the Game Administrator for reasons including (but not limited to) player injuries, player absences, or inability to complete the match because of weather or any other reason; if this occurs, the matchup will be listed as “Cancelled”, “Postponed” or “OFF” and scored as “PUSH”. In all such cases, the Game Administrator’s decision is final, binding and non-appealable. In the event that the matchup you selected is marked as a “PUSH”, your streak will NOT end, but instead will continue unchanged.

Prizes and Tiebreakers

The monthly prize is ($50,000): The entrant who accumulates the longest streak during each Monthly Challenge (e.g., January, 2013) will be considered a Monthly Prize winner. The winner will be announced on the first day of the next month. In the event that two (2) or more entrants are tied for the Monthly Prize in a Monthly Challenge, the following tiebreakers will take place in the indicated order:

1. Entry with the higher winning percentage during the Monthly Challenge.
2. Entry with more total wins during the Monthly Challenge.
3. Random Drawing.
