AFC Predictions

HIGH_HEAT2[300x250]

As you know, the 1st Sunday of the NFL kicks off this week. We have already seen the Cowboys and Giants play on Wednesday, neither team really impressed.  Here is what I think will happen this year in the AFC, followed by the clone recipe for the Chick-fil-A special sauce. You won’t believe how easy it is. You know how good it is.

There are many teams that have improved this year. Let’s get to the FANFOOD predictions.

AFC East Division

1. New England Patriots (12-4)***
2. Buffalo Bills (9-7)*
3. New York Jets (7-9)
4. Miami Dolphins (5-11)

Summary:

The defending AFC Champions have some question marks, but one thing is for sure they have weapons on offense. If Tommy Boy can stay on his feet and the second year RB Ridley can hold on to the ball, they will be a powerhouse and I think they will. The Bills were one the teams that improved this year. So much in fact, that their defense is ranked in the top 10. Fitzy will play better this year, and Buffalo will sneak into the playoffs. The Jets have a ton of questions to answer this year. Number one being why did you sign Sanchez to a deal, then bring in Tebow? The second guessing will go on all year. The main issue is who do they have to get the ball to? The offense looked out of sorts this summer and I am sorry to say will all year too. Oh Miami, are you a basketball town, a football town, or a baseball town? Ryan Tannehill will have something to say about it for a few years. I have always been a fan of Reggie Bush, but he will have to have a monster season for the fish to finish .500 or better.

AFC North Division

1. Baltimore Ravens (12-4)**
2. Pittsburgh Steelers (10-6)*
3. Cincinnati Bengals (9-7)
4. Cleveland Browns (4-12)

Summary:

It pains me to say it, but I think the Ravens are going to win the division, and easily. Ray Rice is the best player in the division, and the new up-tempo style of offense they will employ is the storyline of the AFC North. The Steelers were my pick to win it until DeMarco went down with a nasty injury and Mike Adams failed to impress. That leaves them with another sub-par O-line and Ben scrambling again. He might not finish the year, and without a top notch backup QB, Pittsburgh’s in trouble. New OC and north-sider Haley may choose to use quick passes to keep Ben on his feet. That means Antonio Brown is primed. The Bengals are always hard to predict., most times they disappoint. Dalton is a streaky QB and the addition of “The Law Firm” helps the offense. I would not be a surprised to see Cincy and Pittsburgh flip flop in my prediction. Cleveland is young and interesting. They have drafted well recently, although I think they may have overrated Weeden. It will be interesting to see how he handles the pressure, my guess is so-so and they again are at the bottom of the standings. But isn’t it great to have so many rookie QBs to follow this year?

AFC South Division

1. Houston Texans (11-5)**
2. Tennessee Titans (8-8)
3. Indianapolis Colts (6-10)
4. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-13)

Summary:

I hate to say it, but this is a who cares? division. What is really to get excited about here? Andrew Luck? Jake Locker? Blaine Gabbert? Boring! CJ2K? blah, Arian Foster? Whatever, just score already, What Would Jones Drew? yuck, Andre Johnson? Well at least there is Andre the Giant. 2012 AFC North in one sentence. Texans are back in the playoffs, I can’t name a player on the titans besides the acronym, the Colts are re-building, and the jags play in Jacksonville.

AFC West Division

1. Denver Broncos (10-6)**
2. Kansas City Chiefs (9-7)
3. Oakland Raiders (8-8)
4. San Diego Chargers (7-9)

Summary:

Finally an interesting division. All eyes will be on Peyton in the city that is a mile high. He could really surprise, but then again he could be knocked out of the league for good. The teams in this division hate each other. Although that Indy vs. Texans rivalry was huge –sarcastic. He may not survive the season. I don’t think he has ever had this good of a defense. Not sure what that means, but it can’t be bad. I like the Chiefs and have always been a fan of Cassel. Maybe this is the year he really puts it all together. It has to be. They have some really good players on the offensive side, but the other side is the key. Speaking of weapons, the raiders have them. Young, talented players for Carson Palmer to utilize. Run DMC is going to be the best back in the league this year or he is going down with another one of his injuries, you pick. They are going to use him early, often and then some more. I am not sure what is going on with Rivers. He doesn’t look comfortable and the ball looks strange coming out of his hand. I thought last year was going to be his year, it could have been. He has hit his ceiling and declining rapidly. They will miss VJax, and will give the ball to Ryan Matthews every play that he on the field for.

*** = AFC Champion
** = Division Winners
